jeudi, octobre 30, 2003 ikaw. oo ikaw. anong silbi mo sa buhay ko. i want to know. now. # gtz | 7:21 AM | mardi, octobre 28, 2003 i'm ready to get myself weighed again. my less carbs and no beer diet really works wonders. looks like i can reach my targetted college weight in another month. wahoo! but i really need to have a good drink soon. and have myself a good spa, too. # gtz | 1:54 AM | samedi, octobre 11, 2003 My Shipping News It took me all of a month to finish reading The Shipping News. No, I haven’t seen the movie. Knot about it I was admire E. Annie Proulx for creating a novel from an obscure book on knots. I mean, for a novel to come out from a book on knot-tying, a topic so square and boring, is amazing. That’s like basing a book on nuts and bolts. But with my Girl Scout training, I figured if E. Annie Proulx would talk about knots, I would somehow get myself out of her knots. So why did it take me a month to read through it? Hmm, one week of that was wasted because I didn’t get momentum enough to read more than a few pages a night because the book rocks me to sleep. So I took it with me to Bohol, since I would be riding a ship and reading it while aboard one would be, in a sense, cool and getting into the spirit of it. This, you have to understand, is coming from a beach-bum who grew up in a land-locked party town. I thought, I might yet get to understand some shipping terms. (And I did. Getting into the ship’s restricted area was way kewl! Especially after the 2nd mate showed our group how the marine radar worked, and all that other stuff you only get to see in movies—sinking boat and submarine movies.) I’d still want to see the movie though, if only for two things: how the transition (adaptation) would affect the story’s pace (could it get any slower? Gasp!); and would Wavey (Julianne Moore) appear 45 minutes into the movie with Aunt Agnis (Judi Dench) appearing just 15 minutes earlier? But now I realize that reading the book was indeed like being rocked to sleep while aboard a ship. Unpredictable rocking. A pace sometimes similar to the movement of calm, continuous waves, a few times to the flapping of strong waves. Yet often a motion that you don’t feel—when you actually doubt if the ship is moving at all yet out the window you see the islands passing you by. Maybe that’s why it won the Pulitzer Prize. I don’t know, because honestly, I don’t get it. This is one novel I’d like to read again when I’m old and relaxing by the beach. Or when I’m old and half blind (and I need a magnifying glass to read so I just hire an aspiring actor to read the book to me instead). # gtz | 7:30 AM | mercredi, octobre 08, 2003 blame it on friendster. a few weeks ago, the first thing i did after opening my computer was to click on all the blogs linked to mine, read the stuff, and maybe even write a comment or two. now, the first thing i do is log into friendster. several. times. a. day. blogging and blog-browsing have been demoted to the things-to-do-just-before-i-get-off-work time slot. to quote a fellow friendster, "pwede namang i-text, pero kailangan sa friendster pa." ah! friendship! oh and speaking of friendship... a friend of mine will be forever remembered by another friend of mine (they just met) as the girl who has a framed picture of her defunct barkada. i think my other friend plans to frame a picture of her defunct barkada to help her recover from the pain. but then again, maybe not. she might set it up for target practice. # gtz | 3:34 AM | mardi, octobre 07, 2003 been so busy lately, what with a new job and all, that i can't even imagine where to begin my updating. 1. Bohol was nice. The Chocolate Hills was not chocolatey at this time of the year but nevertheless a sight to behold. tarsiers are cool, but then most nocturnal creatures are. 2. i get to see a magnificent sunset everyday. reflected from the glass windows of not-so-near buildings. golden. magnificently golden. 3. malakas talaga maka-taba ang alcohol, kahit light pa inumin mo. # gtz | 12:49 AM | |
